FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where is Holy Cross School? We are located about 200 yards north of the Boca Del Rio Bridge, which is on the north end of town. See the contact us page for a map.
When are you open: The school office is open from 8am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. While it’s usually best to come by during office hours, there are usually other staff on site until 5pm weekdays and on Saturday – just come to the main gate and give a shout. The school office is open 8am-12 noon over the summer holidays. The school is closed the week either side of Easter, and for 3 weeks over Christmas. Contact us about making arrangements to drop off supplies during these times.
How to dress: If you’d like to take a tour of the school, please take a moment to dress appropriately. This means a modest shirt and shorts or skirt that come most of the way down the thigh. Footwear is essential. There’s not much shade at the school so sunscreen, a hat and insect spray are essential. Bring some water to drink.
Can I take photographs/video? Yes, you may take photos and videos for personal use, such as to show to family and friends. Photographs of students and staff should not be published on websites or on other publications without first contacting us for permission.
Can I bring a donation? Sure can! Here’s a wishlist of our current needs.
Can I get school supplies in Belize to donate? Yes you can. We recommend A&R on middle street.
Please DO NOT ship directly to Holy Cross via mail (including DHL, FEDEX etc). We pay a high duty on anything at arrives through the mail. Read more about sending items to Holy Cross on our Shipping Info page.
What about customs: Items that are being donated to schools are exempt from duty and small quantities of donated goods that can easily fit into your luggage do not need to be declared. In the event that customs do request to inspect your bags, a simple explanation to the Customs Officer that the items are to be donated to Holy Cross Anglican School they’ll usually let you right through. On request, Holy Cross will issue a letter confirming the items you are bringing are donations (tell us your name, city, state, travel date and give a rough list of the items you are bringing).
Where practical, remove all packaging. This reduces the impression that you are bringing the items for resale. Sadly, people have lied about donating goods just so they can bring them in duty free to on-sell.
Can I volunteer while I’m there? Sometimes. Take a look at our volunteer page for more information.
