Summer is fast approaching and we NEED VOLUNTEERS to help us get the school ready for the next year. Here’s just a short list of some of the work we’d like to get done:
- Replace shutters on many class rooms
- Build a retaining wall around our palapa to keep the sand in place
- Alter the pitch on part of a roof
- Pull down an unused structure to make additional bike parking
- Repair termite damage in a wall
- Paint our computer lab and classrooms
- Make improvements to the playground
But we can’t do this without YOUR help.
We need groups and teams to commit to coming down for a week and pitch in to lend a hand. Please contact us if you’re interested in coming.
UPDATE: We also need volunteers for a fun summer camp for the weeks of 3 July and 10 July. Using fun and easy learning games, we’ll work with students to improve literacy and math skills. Come one or both weeks. No experience needed.
When can I come? The weeks of 19 June, 17 July, 24 July and 31 July are available for work groups.
Do I need handyman skills? While construction and handyman skills are definitely appreciated, there are still many jobs that can be done by unskilled but willing hands.
Is Belize safe? Yes, Belize is very safe, and Ambergris Caye, where we are, has been voted the top destination on Trip Advisor for many years running. The food is safe, hotels have air-con and pools and everything is in walking distance. It is ideal for youth groups or less experienced missioners, and also for those who would like to mix their work with a little relaxation or fishing.
My church isn’t going, can I still come? YES, you can get a group of friends together to make your own team. OR, if you are an experienced handyman or builder, you can contact us about working alongside another team here.
I can’t come, but can I still help? YES, you can send funds for supplies so that we can make the repairs ourselves. Even just $500 can go a long way. You can also tell people that we need teams of volunteers.
Can I just visit while I’m on vacation? YES, visitors are welcome and you can be a great help by bringing a few items from our wishlist when you come.
Want to come? Got other questions? Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Dora at firstname.lastname@example.org
